Classical Gas - her new name
The finished product.
We came up with her new name last year, had ISLAND Boat Lettering create her new graphics at the Atlantic City Boat Show this winter and finally it's warm enough to put on her new vinyl lettering.

Remove old lettering
Remove painted lettering with Easy Off.

First, you have to get the old lettering off. We asked around and a couple of experts recommended Easy Off Spray Oven Cleaner. Just spray it on and wait about an hour. The old lettering just melts off. You can use fine brass wool to speed up the process. If you are removing vinyl letters use a hair dryer and a small scraper.

Rub off the old lettering
Rub off the old lettering.

Wash the surface thoroughly. You may need to wet sand with 600 grit sandpaper to remove the shadow of the old name.

Dry Fit Lettering
Dry Fit the Lettering.

Dry fit your new lettering and put small pieces of tape around the paper backing so you can position the lettering in the final step.

Soak the fiberglass with a solution of soapy water according to the instructions for your lettering. Peel the protective backing off and position the lettering on your boat. The soap and water will allow you to slide the lettering for positioning.

Rub on Lettering
Rub On the New Lettering.

Squeeze out the water by rubbing from the center out. This step is very important. Take your time and remove as much as you can to get a good bond. After about two hours you can peel off the support paper.

That's it! Add a coat of wax and you're ready to go.
