As you all know,
we're racers. So we like to look at race boats. But this year a
cruising boat caught my attention. It's been something like 25 years since
I first saw the famous Morgan Out Islander 41. An intellegent liveaboard
design, but short on performance. The new Morgan 38 seems to keep the
flavor of the Out Islander in a slightly smaller package yet brings new
spirit with improved performance. Look for this boat to make an impact
on the market.

| The AC show is also about seminars and once again the
organizers brought together a excellent group of speakers. Lectures on
racing rules, sail trim, even how to plan a cruise were held throughout
the day in the convention center's comfortable facilities. And I do mean
comfortable. Plush padded seats, sound dampened walls, and excellent climate
control made it more like your living room. |

Friends, most of all the AC show is a chance to see your sailing
buddies midwinter. We went with the combined crews of three race boats
(maybe that should be shared crews) and spent Saturday and Sunday exploring
in smaller groups. Saturday night was naturally party time. We ran into many
more friends as well. So many I'm beginning to think they should call it
the Chesapeake Bay Boat Show in Atlantic City. It was a great time to
catch up on the gossip from around the bay. |
